Dear Sister:
      After a long and shameful silence, I will try and drop you a line least 
you think I have forgotten you. I have not forgoten but have neglected 
to write and am at a loss to know what to write as I have not received 
a line from you since I have been in the district but I hope you will write 
and let me hear how you are all doing my own family are all well at this 
time but I fear will not remain so long the sickly season is close at hand 
I think of the mountains very strong when shaking with the ague I have 
had two spells of the fever and ague since we have lived here and am 
in dread of the third. I heard you wrote to betsy but I have not seen your 
letter John intends to start to the mountains in a few weeks for his wifes 
health and will probably pay you a visit.  Iexpect Betsy has answered 
your letter and given all the information about the old people that I can 
they have moved to hiwassie but I have not received a line from them 
so I cant say how they are doing you wrote you had another daughter 
I have another nine months old but no son it is uncertain whether we 
shall settle in this country for good it is owing to the health we enjoy this 
season if we could have health here it is a desireable place to live but 
we have not escaped a season yet without fever or ague and I am in 
constant dread that some of us will be sick my children begin to look pale 
and bad and eat nothing Tell Joshua the Doctor says he would write to 
him but he has wrote and never received an answer so he will wait a while 
longer and see if he wont write at all I wish you to write to me soon and 
write how your selves and uncles family are if any more of them are 
married and who to Betsys family was all well the other day Johns wife 
is poorly but better than she has been I have nothing more to write that 
would be worth including but remain your affectionate sister
