Was a successful farmer an a local Methodist minister in Rutherford Co., Tennessee, where he and Mary raised ten children in the Overall Settlement. This young frontier family was very active in the Methodist Society organized there in 1813, and the sons were instrumental in the formation of Methodist churches in Gibson Co., Tennessee, when west Tennessee was opened up for settlement.
William Jr. also served in the Tennessee militia, being commissioned as Lt., 22nd Reg. 1807 and Capt.,2nd Reg. 1811, Rutherford Co. Tennessee
